How your special tool is made
From enquiry to finished tool: four steps, one contact person.
Prices are on request because they depend on material, geometry and quantity.
What we make
Standard tools are available in the shop. This is about everything that is not in the catalogue.
Special reamers
Cylindrical, tapered or stepped, in carbide, HSS, CBN and PCD – also with indexable inserts and guide pads.
Configure a reamerCountersinks
As a special design in any angle and diameter. Standard from stock: five-flute, spiral and unequal pitch, see countersinks in the shop.
Configure a countersinkMilling cutters and form cutters
In carbide, HSS and PCD, with corner radius, chamfer or ball nose. We make special profiles to your drawing.

Step drills and step reamers with two to four steps, step countersinks to drawing. Standard from stock: step drills.
Configure a step drillBrazed carbide tools
Reamers, milling cutters, step tools and countersinks with firmly brazed carbide cutting edges, with re-tipping and regrinding.
More about brazed toolsKnives and saw blades
Industrial and machine knives made to measure, metal circular saw blades custom-made and as standard.

Cutting materials for your special tool: carbide, HSS, PCD and CBN
The cutting material determines tool life, cut quality and cost-effectiveness. We advise you on the choice and make your tool from the right material. In the configurator, the “Material” step suggests a cutting material to suit your workpiece material.
| Cutting material | Strengths | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Carbide tungsten carbide | wear-resistant and dimensionally stable | Steel, stainless steel and cast iron – as solid carbide or with firmly brazed carbide cutting edges |
| HSS and HSS-E | tough and easy to regrind | Reamers, countersinks, drills and milling cutters, coated on request |
| PCD polycrystalline diamond | very long tool life | Aluminium, non-ferrous metals, plastics and composites. Not suitable for steel and other ferrous materials. |
| CBN cubic boron nitride | second-hardest cutting material after diamond, withstands high temperatures | Hardened steel, chilled cast iron and sintered materials, for example for hard turning or for CBN-tipped reamers |
CBN tools to drawing
CBN withstands the high temperatures when machining hardened steels and can replace grinding there. We make CBN-tipped special tools, for example reamers, countersinks and milling cutters, to your drawing or sample – also as repair and re-tipping. As standard from stock, we carry CBN indexable inserts for hard turning.
Typical applications: hardened steels, chilled cast iron, sintered materials and components that are to be machined to size in one set-up.
We also stock the same cutting materials as standard items: PCD indexable inserts, carbide indexable inserts and cermet indexable inserts with matching tool holders.
In high demand
High-precision special reamers with indexable inserts
Our special reamers with guide pads offer maximum accuracy and performance for two reasons: precise guide pads guide the tool directly in the bore, and the indexable inserts are of first-class quality and precision-ground.
In the fine machining of bores, the demands on the cutting material, the coating, the cutting edge geometry and the grinding quality are exceptionally high. Thanks to highly sensitive and precise adjustment systems, we achieve the required diameter to within one micrometre from the very first workpiece.
With our Easy Adjust system we considerably reduce the setting effort, as only the diameter of the tools has to be set.
For mounting on the machine we carry, for example, the HSK63A BB11-5150-M tool holder. We regrind reamers in HSS, HSSE, carbide, CBN and PCD in our regrinding service.

Matching tools from stock
Not every task needs a custom-made tool. These tools from our shop are available for immediate delivery:
- PCD indexable inserts and CBN indexable inserts – for aluminium, non-ferrous metals and hardened steels
- Carbide indexable inserts, cermet indexable inserts and tool holders for turning
- Carbide rotary burrs Ø 12 mm in five shapes – individually, in packs of 5 and as a set
- Countersinks in HSS-G and HSSE-Co5, CBN-ground countersinks and cross-hole countersinks
- Step drills, indexable insert drills and core drills
- End mills and slot drills DIN 327 in HSS-E Co8
- Carbide hole saws for stainless steel and steel sheet
- Metal circular saw blades and TCT circular saw blades – also custom-made
To drawing, we also make brazed carbide tools, industrial knives and machine knives as well as carbide guide pins. Regrinding and recoating are handled by our regrinding service in Grünsfeld.

Frequently asked questions about special tools
How does the special tool configurator work?
You choose a tool (for example a reamer, countersink, milling cutter or step drill), enter the dimensions, select the cutting material and coating, and send the enquiry. The drawing shows your tool schematically, and there is help for every field. Once you have confirmed by email, we check the enquiry and get back to you with price and delivery date.
Is an enquiry via the configurator binding?
No. It is a non-binding enquiry. Production only starts once you have approved the quote and the drawing.
Do I have to fill in every field in the configurator?
No. Leave blank whatever you do not know, or choose “Please advise”. We will clarify open points with you.
Why do I have to confirm my email address?
To protect against automated enquiries. After sending, you receive an email with a link; your enquiry only reaches us once you click it. We delete unconfirmed enquiries after 48 hours.
Which files can I upload?
PDF, images (JPG, PNG, WebP), DXF, DWG, STEP, IGES and ZIP, up to three files of 8 MB each. For larger files, please write to us via the contact form.
Which tools can I configure?
Reamers (cylindrical, tapered and stepped), countersinks, milling cutters and step drills. You can also request tools to drawing or sample, as well as regrinding and repair.
What are special tools?
Special tools are tools that are not available as standard items but are made to drawing, sample or old tool for a specific machining task – for example special reamers, form cutters, step tools or countersinks with a special geometry.
What is the minimum quantity for special tools?
From 1 piece.
What documents do I need for a quote?
Ideally a drawing with dimensions, tolerances and the workpiece material, plus the quantity you need. Alternatively, a sample or an old tool is enough. If anything is missing, we will ask.
Which cutting materials do you use?
Carbide, HSS (including HSS-E), PCD and CBN, also with brazed carbide cutting edges.
When should I choose PCD and when CBN?
PCD is suitable for aluminium, non-ferrous metals, plastics and composites, CBN for hardened steel and chilled cast iron. PCD is not suitable for steel and other ferrous materials. If in doubt, we will advise you based on your workpiece material.
Do you make tools from a sample or an old tool?
Yes. We make tools to drawing, to sample or from an old tool that serves as a template.
Can you repair or regrind special tools?
Yes. We offer repair, regrinding, re-tipping and, on request, recoating.
How long does delivery take?
That depends on the tool and on drawing approval. We give you the delivery date with the quote.
How much does a special tool cost?
The price depends on cutting material, geometry, dimensions and quantity. We quote it on request after checking your drawing.
What tolerances are possible?
On brazed carbide tools we work in the range of 3 µm (0.003 mm). The achievable tolerance depends on the tool; please state it on your drawing.
What are brazed carbide tools?
Tools on which cutting edges of carbide or PCD are brazed onto a steel body. They can be re-tipped and reground. More on this on the Brazed carbide tools page.
Do you also deliver abroad?
Yes, we handle enquiries from Germany and Europe (in German and English).
Are standard tools also available in the shop?
Yes, for example countersinks (five-flute, spiral, unequal pitch), indexable inserts, metal circular saw blades, band saw blades and coolants.
