WSH-Tools - Manufacturing in Germany
What are industrial knives and machine knives made to measure?
Made-to-measure industrial knives and machine knives are cutting tools that are precisely matched to a specific machine, material and cutting process – rather than coming off the shelf. Length, geometry, grind, material and surface finish are determined by your specifications, not the other way round.
A knife made to drawing or sample pays off whenever a standard knife cannot deliver the required cut quality, service life or fit: as a replacement knife for older machines, for special-purpose machines, for abrasive materials, or when the original part is too expensive or no longer available.
The advantages: dimensionally accurate cuts, longer service life thanks to the right material and the right heat treatment, less downtime and lower costs over the knife’s entire working life – not least because well-made knives can be reground.
Sharpen old knives instead of scrapping them
Many industrial knives can be resharpened and put back into service after an expert inspection.
WSH-Tools checks the knives you send in: whether regrinding makes sense – or whether a new knife is the better choice.

Your benefits
in a nutshell
How your knife is made
- Design. We review the drawing, sample or description and define the geometry, material and tolerances.
- Cutting to size and machining. The blank is milled, laser-cut or EDM-machined.
- Heat treatment. Hardening and tempering to the right hardness – around 50 to 64 HRC, depending on the steel and application.
- Grinding. Precision grinding of the cutting edges and faces.
- Coating (optional). Hard coating for wear protection.
- Inspection and delivery. Dimensional inspection, careful packaging, dispatch. An inspection report on dimensions and hardness must be ordered separately when you place your order.
Three steps to your knife quote
- Describe your application. Which machine and which material do you need a knife for?
- Send your documents. Drawing, sample, photo or part number – simply upload them via the contact form.
- Receive your quote. We will give you the price and lead time once we have reviewed your documents.

Industrial knives & machine knives – questions & answers
What are industrial knives and machine knives?
Industrial knives are cutting tools for shears, shredders, granulators and cutting machines in recycling and in the plastics, wood, metal, paper and food industries. They are usually made from hardened and tempered tool steels and designed for a long service life.
Can I order knives to a drawing, sample or description?
Yes. WSH-Tools makes your knife exactly to your drawing, sample or description. Useful details are the dimensions, material, machine and quantity.
What is your minimum order quantity?
Just one piece. There is no minimum order value – whether you need a one-off, a prototype or a series.
Which types of knife do you make?
Shear blades for guillotine, billet, slab and scrap shears (up to 4,150 mm long), chipper knives, paper knives, wood knives (flaker, comb, veneer and planer knives), rotor, stator and granulator knives, knife sets as well as circular knives for slicing machines and industrial slicers.
Do you also make knives for the food industry?
Yes. We make circular knives and sickle knives for slicing machines and industrial slicers to drawing, sample or dimensions, from one piece upwards – including knives to fit machines from Bizerba, Graef, Berkel, Ritter, Weber and Treif. Find out more on our page Knives for slicing machines and industrial slicers.
Which steel grades and hardness levels are available?
Steel and hardness depend on the knife type, the material being cut and the machine. Typical examples: guillotine shear blades for sheet metal in 1.2379 (D2) or 1.2842 (O2) at around 56–60 HRC; shear blades for thick plate and scrap, and shredder blades, in tough 1.2767 at around 50–56 HRC; chipper knives for wood in 1.2631 at around 54–58 HRC; granulator, rotor and stator knives in 1.2379 or powder metallurgy steel at around 58–62 HRC; paper and film knives in 1.2379 or high-speed steel 1.3343 (M2, HSS) at around 58–64 HRC; knives for the food industry in stainless 1.4034 at around 52–56 HRC. We decide together with you which combination suits your application.
Do I get an inspection report for my knives?
Yes. Every knife undergoes a dimensional inspection before dispatch. An inspection report with the measured dimensions and the hardness must be ordered separately when you place your order.
Will the replacement knives fit my machine?
WSH-Tools manufactures replacement knives for machinery from renowned manufacturers, made to exact dimensions from a drawing or original sample. If your manufacturer is not listed, a drawing, a sample or the technical dimensions will suffice.
Can used knives be reground?
Many industrial knives can be resharpened and put back into service after an expert inspection. We inspect the knives you send in and tell you whether regrinding or a new knife makes more sense.
Are your knives cheaper than the original parts?
Yes – we work without the mark-ups charged by original suppliers. We will give you the price in our quote.
Do you work with resellers?
Yes. Dealers, machine builders and service companies receive individual terms – for regular orders as well as one-off enquiries.
What information do you need for a quote?
Ideally the machine manufacturer and model or the existing part number, the material to be cut, a drawing, dimensions or a sample, plus the quantity and your required date. A photo is also a good start – you can upload documents via the contact form.
Which materials do you use?
Hardened and tempered tool steels in standard grade, powder metallurgy steels and high-grade special steels. Carbide-tipped versions are available on request. We select the right knife material together with you, based on the machine and the material to be cut.
Can the knives be coated?
Yes. WSH-Tools.de offers all common PVD coatings for its tools, for example TiN, TiCN or TiAlN. Tell us about your application and we will find the right combination of material and coating.
How quickly can the knives be delivered?
That depends on the knife and the quantity. Tell us your required date – we will confirm the lead time in our quote. For urgent enquiries, you can reach us directly by phone or WhatsApp.
Do you also make tools with brazed carbide cutting edges?
Yes. Alongside industrial knives, we make brazed carbide tools to drawing or sample: reamers, milling cutters, form cutters, step tools and countersinks – from one piece upwards.
Can you make a replacement blade if I don't know the machine make or the part number?
